While attending a full-time traditional Japanese dressmaking school, Mayumi not only learned how to sew kimonos but also mastered the entire process - from spinning silk from cocoons to dyeing and weaving - directly at the source.
Through this experience, she gained a deep appreciation for the many artisans involved in the making of a kimono and grew to truly value Japan's rich traditions.

A Passion for Traditional Japanese Materials

About Kimono

Mayumi says, “In Japan, opportunities to wear kimonos are becoming less frequent, but I want to create new accessories using this wonderful material and help spread its charm. Each kimono is almost always a one-of-a-kind piece, so you’ll never find the same one twice. This rarity is what makes kimono products so special—they are always unique, always the last of their kind.

About Tatami

The firmness, durability, and sheen of tatami edges reflect the richness of our traditional culture. Due to its sturdiness, tatami cannot be sewn with ordinary sewing machines, and products made with tatami, such as bags, are almost non-existent in Japan.”

One day, she visited a secluded hot spring, but unfortunately, all the hot springs were closed that day. The only shop open was a local specialty store, where she spotted a bag made by a tatami craftsman.

“Tatami bags?” The concept inspired her, and she immediately visited the tatami craftman to learn about the production process and the challenges involved.

That experience was truly special for her. She promised to help spread the appeal of tatami bags, feeling as if she had been guided by destiny. Her passion and commitment to craftsmanship go beyond mere product creation; they are imbued with a deep respect for and a dedication to preserving Japan's traditional culture.

A design and finish that prioritises the material above all.

Each piece is meticulously crafted from authentic kimono fabric remnants, resulting in a design that is both eco-friendly and exudes luxury. With their unique colours and expressions, each item is thoughtfully made with attention to detail, allowing individual personalities to shine.
